About Me
About me, about me...what to say about me? Well, I suppose that there are plenty of awesome things to say about me, but being extremely modest, I won't be the one to say 'em.
I've been a lifelong movie fan, as well as just a nerd in general. I blame both of my parents, in different ways: When I was two years old, my mom brought home a VHS copy of Ghostbusters, which immediately enthralled me. Ever since, I've been obsessed with the supernatural, which led me to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the brilliant TV series, not the horrid movie). I am of the belief that Buffy is pretty much the greatest piece of art ever crafted; it was hilarious, terrifying, moving, and almost unbelievably exciting on an episode-to-episode basis. Buffy, and the rest of Joss Whedon's work (for the record, Serenity is my favorite movie), made me realize the depth of quality possible in TV and movies. It instilled in me a real love for great dialogue, which is what led me to Pulp Fiction and the mind-blowing films of Quentin Tarantino, which in turn led me to the rest of the cinematic world. The one-two punch of Whedon and Tarantino kicked down the doors and opened my eyes, and ever since I've been plumbing the depths. And whaddaya know? There are plenty of treasures to be found.
And now for how my dad screwed me up. My dad loves comic books (he even used to help run a shop with his late friend Ken), and for as long as I can remember, there have been boxes upon boxes of old comics in various parts of our house. I've been reading comics ever since I could read (which was when I was around two or three years old), which helped to foster an appreciation for them as an art. So I've never been one of those people who scoffs at the four-colors; sure, most of the time some random superhero comic isn't going to set the world alight, but once you begin digging deeper, you wouldn't believe what you could find. Interestingly, my dad's always been a DC man, while I am chiefly a Marvelite. Spider-Man is without a doubt my favorite comic book superhero, with Batman coming in second. What that was all preamble for, though, is that I have always been open-minded about things. I will never turn from something just because it's science fiction or fantasy, as many people do (though that trend has been fading recently, and here's to hoping it's delivered its coup de grace at some point soon). I am very open-minded.
I will love anything...as long as it's good.
Ratings System
Here's my ratings system, and what each rating means:

- A masterpiece or a personal favorite; simply a great movie.

- Falls very short of excellence. A near-masterpiece.

- Above average; recommended.

- Average or mediocre.

- Below average; not recommended.

- A terrible movie which has few saving graces.
- Absolutely awful.
Other Favorites
Movies: Here's a list of my top 100 favorite movies, which does occasionally change.
Television: Apart from Buffy, Angel, and Firefly, some of my favorite shows include Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined update), Arrested Development, Six Feet Under, M*A*S*H, Gilmore Girls, The Office (both the U.K. and U.S. versions; just don't ask me to choose), Veronica Mars, The Sopranos, Oz, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report, among many others. It is my belief that we are living in the golden age of television. There are so many brilliant shows on the air right now; sure, you have to wade through a sea of crap to find them, but oh are they out there.
Music: I love music. And the funny thing is, I didn't realize it until a couple of years ago. Since then, I've been listening to all kinds. My favorite bands/artists are the Beatles, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, the Byrds, the Who, the White Stripes, the Doors, Otis Redding, the Ramones, the Velvet Underground, the Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Sonic Youth, Elvis Presley, and about a gazillion others. Though I'm not going to make a website or anything, I have written several album reviews, and they, along with any new ones I may write, can be found here.
(I'll put up a picture soon. Even though I never look good in pictures.)
